High School Preview: Buchholz Vs. Mandarin in Semi-finals

February 3, 2016

The Buchholz Bobcats will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Mandarin Mustangs in 5A Regional semi-finals Tuesday in boy’s soccer action.

The Bobcats are 12-7-4 on the season and 4-0-1 in district games. In the regional quarterfinals Buchholz defeated Port Orange Spruce Creek 3-0. Head coach Joseph Pobee says senior Paul Lorenzen played a huge part in the win against Spruce Creek.

The Bobcats are up against tough competition tonight losing the last two match-ups against Mandarin by 2-1 scores. The Mustangs have a higher team scoring average than the Bobcats and averages higher than the national norm in goals, assists, shots, and goals against average. The Bobcats will need to watch out for Sinan Kanterevic who is the team leader in goals, assists, and shots. Mandarin’s strong suit is getting the ball up the middle of the field. Pobee believes the strategy to winning this time around will be to tackle the middle field to get the ball outside. The Mustangs are 14-5-2 on the season and 3-2-1 in district games.

Although injured, Lorenzen, a senior, will play in tonight’s game for Buchholz.  Pobee says there are 12 seniors on the team and they don’t want the season to end. The winner of tonight’s game will advance to regional finals; match  time is set for 7pm.
