New York Jets Fall to Surging Arizona Cardinals

A painful game for the New York Jets in Arizona last night had them decline to a 1-5 start after their 28-3 loss.

The defense gave up three touchdowns to running back David Johnson and the running game barely gained 33 yards. Then there’s QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Jets fans blame their losing season on their difficult schedule, and it’s becoming more and more apparent that the Jets’ season may as well end now. Especially when the starting quarterback gets benched.

Fitzpatrick lacks consistency and reliability, exactly what the Jets hoped he would bring to the team. Fitzpatrick also has the most interceptions in the league. The quarterback’s third-quarter INT was the last straw for head coach Todd Bowles. His completion rate was at 51.6 percent, not much lower than his average for the 2016 season (57%). After no touchdowns and 174 yards.

Fitzpatrick had much to say about the matter.

Team Support

The team is backing him up, though. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who notched 70 yards on the night,

says the interception in the third quarter wasn’t all Fitzpatrick’s fault. The only points posted up on the board was from Nick Folk, and even his spot on the team has been questioned.

As for the Cardinals, their season is still alive. Quarterback Carson Palmer and running back David Johnson brought their A-game. Arizona is third in the NFC West, but their performance last night seemed to be quite comforting that bigger things are on the way. The 3-3 team led by Palmer somewhat saved their season, avoiding a dreaded 2-4 start.

Palmer threw for 213 yards and had a healthy 67.7% completion rate. Johnson helped move the team forward as well, rushing for 111 yards and three touchdowns.

The Cardinals are looking to upset NFC West leader Seattle at home on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick will be back, and he’s holding this spot at least until next Sunday when the Jets play Baltimore at home.
