A record field goal, lots of good NFL football, lots of SEC teams going bowling and more in our Monday Sports Update…
** A ton of SEC football programs will be going to bowls after the pairings were announced Sunday. Auburn of course will play for the national title against FSU and Alabama also makes a BCS bowl game. Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas A&M, Georgia, Missouri, and Vanderbilt are all going bowling as well for the SEC.
** A new record for longest field goal in NFL history was set yesterday when Denver kicker Matt Prater kicked a 64 yarder in Denver’s win over Tennessee. Prater had the advantage of kicking in the Mile High City but he still break’s Tom Dempsey’s record of 63 yards set in 1970.
** Monday Night Football tonight has Dallas facing Chicago where both teams could use wins to keep their playoff hopes alive.
** The Miami Heat beat the Detroit Pistons 110-95 behind LeBron James and his 24 points. The Orlando Magic lose to Houston 99-88.
** In women’s college soccer, UCLA beat Florida State 1-0 in overtime to capture the NCAA championship.
** In MLB news, Robinson Cano reportedly has reached a 10 year deal with the Seattle Mariners while Mike Napoli agrees to return to the Boston Red Sox. The New York Yankees will reportedly sign free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran and the LA Dodgers have brought back reliever Brian Wilson with a one year deal.
