College and pro football, NBA, even some baseball news today in our Monday Sports Update…
** The new polls and rankings are out in college football. FSU is number one in the AP poll followed by Alabama, Oregon and Mississippi State. In the Amway Coaches poll, Alabama is on top.
** In the NFL, all three Florida teams lose again. Miami falls 39-36 at Denver; Tampa Bay loses 21-13 at Chicago and Jacksonville loses 23-3 at Indianapolis.
** Monday Night Football has two games tonight. The New York Jets play Buffalo in Detroit because of all the snow in the Buffalo area; the regularly scheduled game has Baltimore at New Orleans.
** In the NBA, Miami nips Charlotte 94-93 to improve to 8-6 on the season. Miami is off today while 6-9 Orlando visits Cleveland.
** The College Basketball Hall of Fame has some new members. Former LSU big man Shaquille O’Neal and his coach, Dale Brown, are in this year, as are Grant Hill and Louisville star Darrell Griffith. Coaches Glenn Wilkes of Stetson and Gary Williams are also new inductees.
** The Boston Red Sox will reportedly sign free agent Hanley Ramirez to a five year contract; Ramirez played last year with the LA Dodgers.
