** Proposed renovations to the O’Connell Center, scheduled to start this year, have now been postponed for a year. Officials cited rising costs and a change in the construction management team as some of the reasons for the delay.
** The Florida softball team remains unbeaten (17-0) after a close 2-1 home win over UCF Wednesday; next up a tournament in California.
** The Florida women’s basketball team looks for a win tonight at Alabama. The Gators are under .500 for the year with only one more regular season game remaining.
** In SEC men’s hoops, Georgia downs Ole Miss 76-72 and top ranked Kentucky remains unbeaten with a 74-56 win over Mississippi State.
** In high school basketball, Hawthorne is denied the Class 1A state championship after losing to Chipley 69-40 in Lakeland in the championship game yesterday. Gainesville High will play a state semifinal game on Friday against Orlando Edgewater.
** In the NBA, Miami downs Orlando 93-90 in overtime.
** NFL teams continue to cut veteran players as running back Reggie Bush, wide receiver Jacoby Jones and linebacker AJ Hawk are among some well known names cut by their teams.
