State Softball Championships Start Today: Sports News And Notes

A couple of local area high schools start play today in the State Softball Tournament being held in Clermont.

Union County and Lafayette will square off in a Class 1A semifinal at 5pm.

In other sports news..

** The Gator lacrosse team has earned the overall NCAA Tournament number one seed after winning the American Lacrosse Conference Tournament at home over the weekend.  Florida will face America East champion Albany Saturday at home in first round action.

** The top seeded Chicago Bulls are on the brink of elimination in the NBA’s Eastern Conference playoffs after losing to Philadelphia 89-82 in Philly on Sunday.   Boston has taken a 3-1 lead on Atlanta after ripping the Hawks 101-79 in Boston.   And New York staves off elimination by beating Miami 89-87 but the Heat still lead 3-1.  In the Western Conference, the LA Lakers down Denver 92-88 to take a 3-1 lead.
