Freshman pitcher Blake Purnell is reaping such benefits. Notably, he has been named co-Freshman of the Week in the SEC. Furthermore, he is sharing this title with LSU pitcher Josh Pearson.
Purnell’s Big Week
The redshirt freshman played in all four games since Monday. Crucially, this included a 1-0 record, a save and an ERA of 1.29 across seven innings pitched. Critically, this is the first time a Palm Beach resident has been named freshman of the week.
In the series v. Arkansas, he allowed five hits and no walks were allowed. After earning the save in 3 1/3 innings in game two as well as tying the series. In game three, he got the win by pitching 1.2 perfect innings to finish off the series.
He was a spectator last season. Now he's the guy finishing off No. 2 team in country. Reliever Blake Purnell's progress a huge plus for #Gators — https://t.co/0hcw7gwljx
