Gainesville-Area Schools Advance To Baseball District Championships

The high school baseball district championship games are set, with four Gainesville area teams playing for a title. The final matchups will occur today at various times and locations in Alachua County.

Buchholz

The No. 1 seed Buchholz Bobcats (25-1) have advanced to the 6A-District 2 championship game. Buchholz made it after defeating Ocala Forest (14-13) in the semifinals 3-2. Now, Buchholz faces No. 2 seed St. Augustine Tocoi Creek (17-7) tonight at 7 at Buchholz.

Santa Fe

Top seed Santa Fe (11-14) defeated crosstown rival Eastside (0-22), 14-0 in the 3A-District 5 semifinals to continue in the tournament. Two seed Palatka (17-8) also advanced after beating Bradford (11-13) 17-1. After dominant wins in the semifinals, Santa Fe and Palatka face off in the championship tonight at 6.

Saint Francis vs Oak Hall

Top seed Saint Francis (18-6) swept Peniel Baptist Academy (7-12) in the district semifinals with a 10-0 win. Two seed Oak Hall (8-8) came out on top against Countryside Christian (14-6), beating them 16-3. Saint Francis and Oak Hall will go head to head for the 1A-District 5 title today at 4 p.m. at Saint Francis.

Other area results

No. 4 seed Gainesville (7-12) was upset by No. 5 Palm Coast Mantanzas (2-24) 5-3 in the 5A-District 5 quarterfinals.

No. 5 seed P.K. Yonge (10-13) lost in a close 8-7 game to No. 4 seed Interlachen (13-9) in the 2A-District 4 quarterfinals.

No. 2 seed Williston (13-11) had a dominant 21-0 win against Wildwood (1-16) in the Rural District quarterfinals. Williston advanced to the semifinals, where it was upset by No. 3 Chiefland (13-9), 7-3.

No. 2 Newberry Panthers (11-8) had a bye in the quarterfinals. In the 2A-District 4 semifinals they were upset by No. 3 Ocala Trinity Catholic (10-16)  in a 13-3 loss.

Six seed Hawthorne (10-10) suffered a tough 15-0 loss against Branford (21-6) in the Rural District 6 quarterfinal game.

The FHSAA regional playoff bracket will be announced Friday.
