Buchholz Girls Lacrosse Dominates Against Newberry

March 7, 2026

NEWBERRY — Buchholz Bobcats girls lacrosse dominated against the Newberry Panthers.

The Bobcats (7-1) were up 12-1 with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter Friday.when the match was called due to lightning.

Sophomore Julia Zona set the tone for Buchholz by scoring the first goal 17 seconds into the game. The Bobcats ended the first quarter up 7-1.

Midfielder Hailey Elshire scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter to help extend the lead.

The Bobcats continued to apply pressure coming out of the half by scoring one more goal before the game was called for weather conditions.

BHS is now on a three-game win streak, which coach Marissa Higgins said represents how the team has been executing and playing hard.

“We have a lot of mental toughness on our team,” Higgins said. “We were able to fight through adversity. Not get too focused on the losses we had in the previous week.”

The Bobcats have outscored opponents 42-1 in the past three outings.

Defender Brynn Baker has played a big role in the team’s defensive performances. She said they were able to regroup as a team and dominate this week’s schedule.

“We came back from a mental block,” Baker said. “It is really nice to have the team come back together.”

The Panthers (4-2) came into the matchup following back-to-back wins against Santa Fe and Ocala Trinity Catholic, respectively.

NHS coach Heather Roark said the team was out hustled as well as lacked some confidence.

The Panthers turn around and face Trinity Catholic (1-3) for the second time Monday. Roark is optimistic for the 6:30 p.m. matchup.

“Lots of rest, hitting the wall and good spirits back on Monday,” Roark said.

Buchholz plays at 6 p.m. Monday at Orange Park Fleming Island (8-1).
