Florida Football’s 2027 Recruiting Class Grows With Davin Davidson

April 11, 2026

Florida football has landed yet another big recruit from the Class of 2027. After picking up five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller earlier this week, the Gators landed four-star quarterback Davin Davidson on Thursday.

The junior currently plays at Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota, Florida. Considering he was being eyed by other big-name schools like Georgia, Kentucky and Auburn, it’s fair to say that playing in his home state assisted in his decision.

On Florida’s side, his recruitment includes some more concrete reasoning. Despite his age, his lack of experience hasn’t hindered his stats. This past season, Davidson threw for 2,360 yards with 23 touchdowns. With his powerful arm, he led the Cougars to a state championship in Class 2A. They also held a dominant record in the regular season of 14-1, and ranked 60th in the country. In the state, they fell at No. 6.

Individually, Davidson sits at No. 175 on ESPN’s junior recruiting database. He’s also rated as the No. 1 quarterback in Florida according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

That said, there’s still a lot of time before Davidson would officially be able to take the field as a Gator. The next year could give him a chance to fine-tune his skills. They also could yield injuries and other setbacks.

Florida, though, is used to taking such gambles. In 2022, the program made news by recruiting a five-star quarterback from Willis, Texas. Many know him better as DJ Lagway — or wish they didn’t know him at all. At the time of his commitment, he sat as the No. 12 overall prospect in ESPN’s rankings.

When Lagway finally entered The Swamp for his rookie season, he gave reason to believe the Gators made the right decision, ending the year 6-1 as a starter. But the next campaign was nowhere near as successful. Florida fell to 4-8, and the season was riddled with the once-promising quarterback tossing interceptions left and right.

However, Lagway’s letdown doesn’t ensure the same tale for Davidson. There’s no telling where he or the team will be when the 2027 season rolls around. But, for the sake of Florida fans, new coach Jon Sumrall’s growing list of recruits will hopefully bolster his rebuild.
