Former Florida Pitcher Cooper Walls Transfers to Georgia
Fresh off the heels of Cade Kurland committing to LSU, another former Gators baseball player is transferring to an SEC rival.
Right-handed pitcher Cooper Walls committed Friday to Georgia the day before the Bulldogs’ first appearance in the College World Series since 2008. The transfer marks Walls’ third school in three years, previously transferring to Florida from Hawaii.
Originally the Sunday starter, Walls pitched just one complete start in 2026, throwing 5 ⅓ innings against UAB on opening weekend. The sophomore gave up four runs and one run with four strikeouts.
Walls struggled with consistency throughout the season while allowing 53 runs, 30 earned runs and 12 walks on 37 strikeouts in 37 ⅔ innings. He finished the season with one save recorded against LSU in the regular season finale.
Starting the Gators’ must-win game against Troy in the NCAA Gainesville Regional, Walls gave up two runs on two hits, two walks and two strikeouts in 1-plus innings of work. The offense stalled, resulting in a loss tallied toward his 3-3 record and the end to Florida’s season.
Walls experienced more success at Hawaii, where he won Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year, the second in program history. He recorded a 3.73 ERA over 60 ⅓ innings pitched and gave up 69 hits, 25 earned runs and 15 walks with 45 strikeouts.
Walls entered the portal June 5, four days after the loss to Troy.
No. 3 Georgia faces No. 6 Texas on Saturday in Omaha.
