No. 17 Florida Volleyball Takes Down North Texas in Three Sets

Gators volleyball swept the North Texas Mean Green on Sunday in front of a packed house at the Super Pit in Denton, Texas. North Texas set a program attendance record of 2,377 fans.  

No. 17 Florida (4-1) dominated North Texas (3-2) in three sets (25-17, 28-26, 25-16). 

The Gators came out swinging in the first set by recording 15 kills to North Texas’ eight while also making five blocks to the Mean Green’s one. Despite Florida committing four service errors, the Gators still came out on top in the first set, 25-17. 

Florida and North Texas battled back-and-forth for the lead in the second set, trading points as they approached set point. 

Middle blocker Amaya Thomas closed out the set with a block to give the Gators a 28-26 victory. Florida recorded 18 kills, three aces and two blocks in this set.

Setter Taylor Parks kept North Texas on its toes by forcing the Mean Green to defend the entire net. Florida went on a 7-0 scoring run led by Parks serves. 

The Gators closed out the match strong at the net with 11 kills and five blocks. 

Florida dominated the court with 44 kills compared to North Texas 26 kills. The Gators also recorded 12 blocks and still came out on top despite committing eight service errors. 

Alec Rothe and Parks led the way for the Gators. Rothe finished with 10 kills and five blocks while hitting .538. Parks recorded 30 assists and 10 digs while hitting an impressive .833. 

The Gators return to Gainesville after a successful weekend in Texas, sweeping both No. 20 Baylor on Saturday and North Texas in three sets after going 1-1 at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge in Wisconsin earlier in the week.

The Gators are back in the O’Connell Center on Wednesday to take on Miami (0-4) at 8 p.m.
