Gators WR Singleton, DL Oyebadejo ‘Not Probable’ for Week 2
Despite the Jon Sumrall era kicking off in successful fashion after Florida’s 66-21 victory over Florida Atlantic in Week 1, UF did not come out of the season opener unscathed.
Sumrall revealed that starting wide receiver Eric Singleton suffered an ankle injury during Florida’s first offensive drive and did not return. Sumrall also mentioned Singleton attempted to return to the contest and stayed in full uniform, but ultimately did not play another snap.
“He had a little ankle [injury]. I don’t know how severe. He tried to give it a go,” the Gators coach said Monday..
Singleton came into his Gators debut with the sixth-longest active streak in college football for consecutive games with a catch, including his time at Auburn. Sumrall provided more insight on the injury Monday morning, passing along an update that was not very optimistic.
“I would say right now Eric Singleton is highly questionable for this week,” Sumrall said. “He’s definitely not probable as of right now.”
The first-year head coach also singled out fifth-year defensive lineman Emmanuel Oyebadejo as another player who got banged up in Saturday’s opener. Hailing from Manchester, England, Oyebadejo batted down a pass from Owls quarterback Caden Veltkamp and notched his first two tackles as a Gator before exiting.
Sumrall’s news for the Jacksonville State transfer was just as gloomy as Singleton’s, with a verdict leaning towards him not playing next week.
“Emmanuel [Oyebadejo] is also highly questionable. Very similar injuries,” Sumrall said. “We won’t really know until probably middle to later in the week what their real availability is.”
While the information on two of Florida’s players from a top-30 nationally ranked transfer class in 2026 was negative, other upsides were brought to the table from a health standpoint.
Senior running back Evan Pryor, who also departed the game against FAU with a hip injury, will most likely come off the injury report as the week progresses. Sumrall mentioned the Cincinnati transfer avoided a larger problem with the hip issue and signs are pointing up towards him playing against Campbell.
The Gators also dodged a bullet after cornerback J’Vari Flowers was helped off the field in the third quarter after falling in the end zone while covering Owls receiver Kelby Valsin on a 20-yard touchdown strike. Flowers, who played in all 12 games in 2025, only dealt with cramps on the play and was held out of the remainder of the game as a precaution. Flowers was a participant in practice Monday and is expected to play in Week 2.
Aside from the four players exiting against FAU, Florida remains healthy to start the year at nearly every position after an injury-riddled season in 2025. The Gators now turn their attention to healing up before a second-straight home matchup to start the season. Kickoff for the Gators Week 2 matchup at The Swamp against the Campbell Fighting Camels is set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
