Guiser Wins Second Tournament in Florida Women’s Golf Season Opener

The No. 7 Florida women’s golf team started the 2026 season with a sweep at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, South Carolina, finishing at 16-under Tuesday. Redshirt sophomore Jessica Guiser recorded her second collegiate individual title after 477 days away from NCAA competition. 

The field of 18 teams included six ranked opponents such as No. 4 Arkansas, No. 9 Vanderbilt and No. 16 LSU.

Florida finished 10 strokes ahead of No. 23 Tennessee. After the first day, Guiser led the team with a 36-hole score of 5-under, tying for second with Wisconsin sophomore Grace Slocum. 

Guiser was a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2025 and joined Riko Higashio as the second freshman to win the Gator Invitational. She also won the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship in July by 10 strokes. 

The Wisconsin native carded three rounds under par at the Cougar Classic, including her career record in the second round with a score of 67. 

After Monday’s rounds, fellow Gators, sophomore Katelyn Huber and senior Paula Francisco, had the rest of the team’s scores under par, finishing tied for 13th. The pair shot 1-under, adding to the Gators’ lead. 

In their closing round, Huber also broke her own personal record with a score of 67. The P.K. Yonge graduate limited herself to only four bogeys across 54 holes. 

The fourth counting score for Florida came from junior Elaine Widjaja, who shot 1-over, tying for 23rd place. The final Gator competing at the Cougar Classic was junior Addison Klonowski.

Despite a first-round score of 7-over, Klonowski reigned in her game, scoring 2-under in the second round of the day. On Tuesday, she maintained momentum, carding another 69 and rising through the rankings to tie with Francisco for 30th place. 

The Gators look to ride this momentum to their second tournament of the season at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sept. 18-20 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
