Florida Men’s Golf Opens Season Runner-Up at Sahalee Players Championship

The Gators men’s golf team began the season with a runner-up finish Sunday at the Sahalee Players Championship in Seattle, Washington. 

Florida fell short of victory against Oklahoma State once again. 

At the NCAA  Championship in May, Florida lost in match play to the Cowboys, making this a matchup the team had been looking forward to. Particularly, seniors Jack Turner and Luke Poutler who lost their match-play rounds against Gaven Lane and Eric Lee, respectively. 

The Oklahoma State golfers finished the tournament in second and fourth place in leading the Cowboys to a 28-stroke win. 

Turner led the charge for the Gators, finishing both days of the tournament as the team’s leading scorer at 2-over. 

Florida was in third place after 36 holes at 12-over par Saturday.  The Gators matched this score Sunday to end the tournament 24-over.

Parker Sands, who tied for ninth place with Duke junior Oliver Mukherjee, was Florida’s second-highest finisher at 4-over. 

Trevor Gutschewski and Poulter were Florida’s final counting scores, ending the tournament tied for 25th and 27th, respectively.  

Florida will next compete at the Fighting Illini Collegiate at Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago on Sept. 18-20.
