Second Gator Named SEC Women’s Golfer of Week

Florida senior Paula Francisco was named the SEC Golfer of the Week following her win at the Mason Rudolph Championship last weekend, the league announced this week.

Francisco shot -6 to secure the individual win that helped the Gators tie with Arizona State for second place at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.  

In the first round of the tournament, Francisco was tied with Georgia Southern’s Margaux Brejo at -4, but Francisco dominated the rest of the tournament. She won rounds two and three outright to finish the tournament at 207.

It’s Francisco’s third individual win as well as the second time she’s been named the SEC Golfer of the Week in her career.  She won at the SEC Championship and the Gators Invitational last season.

But this coveted honor isn’t new to the women’s golf team. 

Two weeks ago, Jessica Guiser was named the SEC Golfer of the Week after her first-place finish to help Florida win the Cougar Classic.

The Gators have had individual winners in their first two tournaments, setting them up for a strong finish in the fall. 

Next, the Gators play in The Ally tournament hosted by Mississippi State on Oct. 5-7. 

Florida participated in this tournament last year and won the whole thing. Francisco ended the tournament in a four-way tie for eighth place, scoring -4, totaling 212 for all three days.
