iPhone 11, Disney+ and Kyle Trask: Revisiting the Last 3-0 Gators

The year is 2019, the iPhone 11 was brand new, Disney+ had just launched, COVID-19 wasn’t even a thought and Florida was 3-0.

It’s been seven years since the last time the Gators started a season 3-0 and everything was different.

Dan Mullen was at the helm of the Gators and Kyle Trask was lighting it up after Feleipe Franks suffered a season-ending injury against Kentucky. Florida went on to be 6-0 at one point in 2019 before falling to LSU in Death Valley.

The Gators ended 2019 with an 11-2 record, and fell just a couple of places shy of the College Football Playoffs. No one was worried about if the Gators would make the SEC Championship, but who they would play. However, after losing to Georgia, the Gators failed to make the SEC championship.

Florida went on to raid the Orange Bowl with the same force people were supposed to raid Area 51 with, coming out with a 36-28 victory against Virginia.

Fans weren’t worried about the Gators losing, they were worried about the World Record Egg instagram post.

Fast forward to 2026, and Florida has not been the same. In the seven years since that season, the Gators have had two seasons over .500 and four head coaches.

However, coach Jon Sumrall has brought a new identity to Gainesville and the Gators are 3-0 once again. After defeating FAU, Campbell and Auburn, the No.21 Gators now turn their attention to a pivotal matchup in the Swamp against No.4 Ole Miss.

After years of misery, Gator fans are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and there is a sense of hope in the streets of Gainesville.

Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m as the Gators look to continue a historic stretch.
