- Novak Djokovic wins the U.S. Open men’s singles tennis title in New York after beating Rafael Nadal in straight sets. Djokovic is now 64-2 with 10 tournament titles this year.
- The Tampa Bay Rays continue to stay hot, beating the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 on Monday night, cutting their deficit in the American League wild card race to just three games. The leader, Boston, did not play.
- University of Florida linebacker Dee Finley was arrested on Monday for resisting a University Police Department officer with violence and driving with a suspended license. Resisting arrest with violence is a third degree felony. Finley was originally pulled over, according to a UPD report, on his scooter when he allegedly drove it around a barricade near Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
