Gators Volleyball’s Alec Rothe Picks Up Weekly SEC Honor

October 20, 2026

Following Florida’s two victories in the Lone Star State, over No. 19 Texas A&M and then-No. 12 Texas, junior middle blocker Alec Rothe was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Rothe was dominant defensively in both matches, recording six blocks against the Aggies and eight against the Longhorns.

The Dublin, Ohio, native also made her presence felt on offense. Against Texas on Sunday, Rothe had a career-high 17 kills and hit .419.

Over the two matches, Rothe averaged 1.56 blocks and 3.78 points per set and hit .428.

Rothe is the second Florida player to earn SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. Junior opposite hitter Logan King received the award twice, on Sept. 21 and Oct. 5.

After the two wins, Florida climbed two spots to No. 5 in the AVCA rankings. The Gators (15-2) also sit second in the SEC at 6-1, behind No. 4 Kentucky (7-1).

Florida returns to the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on Friday to face LSU (8-9, 3-5). First serve is at 7 p.m., with WRUF’s coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
