Florida-Georgia Rivalry Brings Halloween History to Atlanta

October 30, 2026

With Halloween falling on Saturday this year, the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs will add another twist to their already historic rivalry. The annual matchup, traditionally played in Jacksonville in neutral territory, will have a different setting this season as renovations at EverBank Stadium move the game to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The game marks the first time since 1995 that the rivalry will not be played in Jacksonville.

While the teams meet in a new city, Florida looks to continue a Halloween tradition that has favored the Gators. Since 1931, the two programs have met on Halloween five times and Florida has won four of those matchups. Georgia claimed the first Halloween meeting in 1931, defeating Florida 33-6. Since then, the Gators have won four consecutive Halloween matchups, including a 27-3 victory in 2015. Across all five games, Florida has outscored Georgia 132-64, giving the Gators a 4-1 record when the rivalry falls on Halloween.

The most recent Halloween matchup was on Oct. 31, 2015, when Florida defeated Georgia 27-3 in Jacksonville. The Gators controlled the game from the start, heading into halftime with a 20-0 lead. Florida’s defense played a major role in the victory, forcing five turnovers, including four interceptions. Running back Kelvin Taylor also helped lead the offense with 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

However, Florida’s Halloween history has not translated into recent success against the Bulldogs. Georgia has won the last five matchups against the Gators, including a 24-20 victory on Nov.1, 2025. The Gator’s last win in the rivalry came in 2020, when Florida defeated Georgia 44-28.

“I have a lot of respect for what Georgia football has accomplished historically and then even when you just look most recently over Kirby’s time there since 2016, what they’ve been from a consistency standpoint is so impressive,” Sumrall told Florida Gators Athletics. “We’re in the infancy stages of trying to build a program that can last.”

While Florida looks to change the recent direction of the rivalry, both teams enter Saturday with different expectations following its performance this season.

Georgia enters Saturday’s matchup ranked No.3 nationally with a 6-1 overall record and a 4-1 record in SEC play. The Bulldogs have been one of the nation’s top-scoring offenses, averaging 43 points per game behind quarterback Gunner Stockton. Through seven games, Stockton has thrown for 1,570 yards and 16 touchdowns, making him a big part of Georgia’s offensive success. However, the Bulldogs are coming off a 24-20 loss to Auburn, giving them added motivation to bounce back against their historic rival.

Florida enters the rivalry ranked No.17 with a 5-2 record and a 3-2 record in SEC play. Under new head coach Jon Sumrall, the Gators have already picked up wins against ranked opponents Ole Miss and Texas, showing they can compete against some of the conference’s top teams. Florida’s offense has averaged 39.6 points per game. The Gators are coming off a 27-24 road win over the then No.7 Texas, giving them confidence heading into Saturday’s matchup.

This year’s matchup gives Florida an opportunity to end its five-game losing streak against Georgia while maintaining its winning record in Halloween meetings. Georgia will look to extend its winning streak against Florida to six games, this time on a holiday that has historically belonged to the Gators.

With a new stadium, two nationally ranked teams and Halloween adding another layer to the rivalry, Saturday’s matchup will bring a different atmosphere to a historic SEC showdown.
