Red Sox Top Yanks In MLB

The Boston Red Sox now have a game and a half lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East after beating the Yankees 9-5 Wednesday night in Boston.

Boston had three homers in the game, including one by Jacoby Ellsbury that broke a 5-5 tie to give Boston a lead it would not give up.

In other AL action, Toronto blanks Baltimore 13-0; Detroit nips Kansas City 5-4; Minnesota downs Chicago 7-6; Cleveland beats Oakland 2-1 in 16 innings; Tampa Bay beats Texas 4-1 and Los Angeles loses to Seattle 2-1.

In the National League, St.Louis downs Milwaukee 8-3 but still trail the Brewers by eight and a half games in the NL Central. Philadelphia blanks Cincinnati 3-0 as Cliff Lee gets his 15th win; New York nips Florida 3-2; Houston sweeps Pittsburgh with a 2-0 win; Los Angeles sweeps San Diego 4-2; San Francisco blanks Chicago 4-0; Arizona stays red hot with a 4-2 win over Colorado and Chipper Jones hits his 450th homer as Atlanta beats Washington 3-1.
