About WRUF

WRUF 850 AM, 98.1 FM, and 103.7 HD2 is Gainesville’s first local radio station, one of the oldest in Florida, and the proud broadcast home of Florida Gators sports. Serving 14 counties across North Central Florida, WRUF delivers every Gator game, along with ESPN Radio’s top programming.

Since signing on the air in 1928—and heading toward its 100th anniversary in 2028—WRUF has been a trusted voice for generations of Gator fans. From the very beginning, the station provided news, agricultural updates, and live play-by-play, becoming both a community lifeline and a training ground for students. In the 1930s, a young UF student named Red Barber launched his career at WRUF before becoming one of the most iconic voices in sports history.

For nearly a century, WRUF has shaped the careers of countless media professionals, including Fox Sports host Erin Andrews and ESPN host Laura Rutledge. Today, WRUF remains a cornerstone of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications—where the Gators play, the fans listen, and sports history is made.
