Oakland beat the Rays 5-4 in 10 innings on Sunday and with the loss, Tampa Bay is only a game and a half ahead of surging Toronto for third place in the American League East. The Jays beat Baltimore 7-2.
In other AL games, Texas downs Cleveland 5-3; Kansas City nips Detroit 4-3; red hot Los Angeles nips Seattle 2-1; Chicago completes a sweep of Minnesota with a 7-0 win and Boston downed New York 3-2.
In the National League, Atlanta beats New York 7-6 to take two of three in a series in New York. The Mets got the tying run on base twice in the ninth inning but failed to score.
In other NL games, Milwaukee beats Houston 7-3 for their sixth straight win; San Francisco avoids a four game sweep by Philadelphia with a 3-1 win; Cincinnati nips Chicago 8-7; Washington downs Colorado 3-2; San Diego deals Pittsburgh its 10th straight loss 7-3; Arizona downs Los Angeles 4-3 and St.Louis knocks off Florida 8-4.
