There could be big problems ahead for the University of Miami’s football program with the NCAA if allegations made by a convicted Ponzi scheme invester are true.
Yahoo! Sports interviewed Nevin Shapiro and he named names, saying he provided illegal benefits to 72 Hurricane football players between 2002 and 2010.
Among the items he says he gave to athletes; cars, TV’s, yacht trips, and jewelry, sex parties and meals.
The NCAA has been in Miami questioning people and it has spoken with UM president Donna Shalala and athletic director Shawn Eichorst.
Shapiro was interviewed by Yahoo! Sports in over 100 hours of taped material and among the many things alleged by Shapiro are that he worked in concert with former Miami assistant coaches during the recruiting process. Current Gator wide receiver coach Aubrey Hill was on the Miami coaching staff during part of the time Shapiro alleges he worked with assistant coaches but Hill has not commented on the story.
