- Texas A&M University has formally notified the Big 12 Conference that is considering leaving the league. In a formal letter to the conference, Texas A&M also asked what the process should be if the school were to leave the conference.
- Former Gator linebacker Brandon Siler could be out for a while after suffering an injury in a preseason game. The Kansas City Chiefs linebacker has been placed on injured reserve.
- Several published reports say that the University of Miami is going to have 11 to 13 current players declared ineligible for allegedly accepting payments of some kind from a former booster of the school. However, the school will seek reinstatement of those players from the NCAA and there is a chance players would not miss any time during the regular season.
- LSU has suspended wide receiver Russell Shepard for its season opener against Oregon for violation of university and NCAA rules. He could miss more time as well as the school looks to file reinstatement papers with the NCAA. LSU is also investigating an alleged fight that involved some members of its football team outside a bar.
