The University of Maryland gave new coach Randy Edsall his first win as they knock off ACC rival and undermanned Miami 32-24 Monday night in College Park, Maryland.
Despite amassing nearly 500 yards of offense, the Terps had trouble in the red zone and were forced to settle for field goals instead of touchdowns on many occasions and that kept the score close. In fact, Miami took a 24-23 lead before the Terps sealed the game late.
Nick Ferrara had missed a chip shot field goal in the fourth quarter but made up for it with a 32 yarder to give Maryland the lead back, and then Cameron Chism ran back an interception for a touchdown to seal the win.
The Hurricanes played without several players sitting out NCAA suspensions but they played admirably under new coach Al Golden. Still, too many turnovers hurt the team and it cost them in the end dearly.
