Rays Gain More Ground On Red Sox In Wild Card Race

The Tampa Rays are now only two games behind the Boston Red Sox for the American League wild card spot after beating the Red Sox 8-5 on Sunday. The Rays take three of four in a head to head series in Boston and they have the day off today while Boston hosts Baltimore.

In other AL news, Justin Verlander wins his 24th game as Detroit downs Oakland 3-0. Texas now leads Los Angeles by four and a half games in the AL West after beating Seattle 3-0 while LA keeps pace with an 11-2 win over Baltimore.

In the National League, Atlanta now leads St.Louis by only three and a half games for the wild card after losing to New York 7-5 Sunday while St.Louis blanks Philadelphia 5-0. Arizona has a magic number of five to win the NL West after beating San Diego 5-1 and Milwaukee is a step closer to clinching the NL Central after knocking off Cincinnati 8-1.

Atlanta plays at Florida today while St.Louis stays to play Philly. Milwaukee plays at Chicago while Arizona hosts Pittsburgh.
