Gabbert To Start For Jags In Sports News And Notes

September 22, 2011

There is a new starting quarterback already in Jacksonville and that leads our Sports News And Notes for Thursday…

  • The Luke McCown days as the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback are over, at least for now. He’s yanked after only two games as the Jags starter and he is replaced by rookie first round draft choice Blaine Gabbert. The Jags will face Carolina this weekend.
  • With the Pac 12 not expanding, it does not mean the end of moving around for some teams to other conferences in college athletics. The Big 12 will only have nine teams if Texas A&M leaves for the SEC, and most think another team will be added to the league. The Big East, losing Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the ACC, might also look to add teams to keep itself viable now that it is down to only six football schools in the league.
  • The NFL wants to crack down on any teams or individuals who are faking injuries to slow the pace of the game down; a memo was sent to all teams warning of fines, suspensions and even losses of draft choices if players fake injuries during a game.
