Both Wild Card Races Now Tied With One Game Left
The race for the wild card in both leagues in Major League Baseball could not be tighter with only one game left in the regular season.
In the American League, Boston and Tampa Bay are tied for the top spot after both teams won Tuesday; the Rays beat New York 5-2 and Boston nipped Baltimore 8-7. Those teams will all play again tonight.
In the National League, St.Louis has tied Atlanta for the wild card lead after beating Houston 13-6 while the Braves lost 7-1 to Philadelphia. Those teams will square off again tonight.
If Boston and Atlanta lose, it would signal two of the biggest collapses down the stretch in recent baseball memory after both teams had big wild card leads going into September. But each of those teams has stumbled badly in September, allowing Tampa Bay and St.Louis to get back into the race.
