The third ranked Alabama football team got a career day from running back Trent Richardson to help the Tide beat Florida 38-10 in Gainesville Saturday night. Florida is now 4-1 on the year and will play second ranked LSU next week in Baton Rouge while Alabama improves to 5-0 with a game next week against Vanderbilt.
Florida scored on its first pass of the game when quarterback John Brantley hit wide receiver Andre Debose on a 65 yard completion to give the Gators a 7-0 lead. After an Alabama field goal, the Gators got a field goal of its own to lead 10-3 but those points would be the last they would score on the night.
The Gators trailed 24-10 late in the first half but were driving when they took two straight sacks and a Caleb Sturgis field goal of 52 yards was no good. The game was still at 24-10 after three quarters but Alabama pulled away in the fourth quarter to get the victory.
Richardson helped Alabama’s ground game with a career high 29 carries for a career high 181 yards and two touchdowns as the Tide outrushed Florida 226 to 15 on the night.
Meanwhile Florida also lost starting quarterback John Brantley due to some sort of leg injury but coach Will Muschamp did not reveal the extent of the injury in his postgame press conference.
Florida was held to 222 total yards and the Alabama defense had three sacks as well.
