For the first time in some 30 years, there are no State of Florida football teams in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
Florida, Florida State and Miami all lost this past weekend and now none of those once powerhouse programs are ranked in this week’s polls.
LSU is still number one in the AP poll followed by Alabama, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Boise State. Oklahoma is on top of the USA Today poll, followed by LSU, Alabama, Wisconsin and Stanford.
Florida’s next opponent, Auburn, is ranked 24th in the AP poll but is not ranked in the USA Today poll after being beaten at Arkansas in convincing fashion 38-13.
Still, defeating Auburn on the road would seem to be a tough task for a Gator team that has been beaten twice in a row by top two teams in the country. Florida is injured, and who knows what its mental frame of mind is right now as well after suffering those two difficult defeats.
Florida must get better play on both lines of scrimmage and too many penalties are also a problem. And Florida will face another team with powerful running backs as Auburn’s Michael Dyer comes off a 100 yard rushing game against Arkansas.
For Auburn, defense has been an issue all season long but does Florida have enough offensive firepower to exploit that seeming weakness?
We start to get those answers this week in preparation for Saturday’s 7pm eastern time kickoff.
