Tebow Named Starter; Wednesday Sports News And Notes

Former Gator quarterback has been named the starting quarterback, at least for the time being, for the Denver Broncos. Coach John Fox made that announcement Tuesday after the Broncos lost to San Diego on Sunday with Tebow coming in off the bench to lead a spirited Denver comeback. The Broncos have a bye this week.

  • Could Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein be switching jobs to take on a similar position with the Chicago Cubs? Several sources report the clubs are talking compensation if Epstein decides to leave Boston.
  • South Carolina has dismissed senior quarterback Stephen Garcia from the team. Garcia, suspended five times in his career, reportedly tested positive for alcohol and marijuana, violations of a contract he signed to stay clean.
  • Interim Big 12 Commissioner Chuck Neinas says the league is set for 10 teams in 2012, even though Missouri is still exploring options to leave. The league will have 10 teams with the addition of TCU next season.
  • UCF football coach George O’Leary says he is hearing that his school will be invited to join the Big East conference. However, no one has confirmed that the school would be invited although Big East schools have given the approval for the conference to expand to as many as 12 teams.
