The Florida Gator football team lost its third game in a row on Saturday night, losing 17-6 at Auburn. The Gators drop to 4-3 overall and to 2-3 in SEC play while Auburn improves to 5-2 overall.
Florida played without quarterback John Brantley, out with an injury, but the Gators also did not have the services of running back Jeff Demps and defensive lineman Ronald Powell who also missed the game because of injury.
Auburn broke out on top 7-0 but the Gators got two Caleb Sturgis field goals to pull within 7-6 at the half. Auburn missed a field goal to end the first half and the Gators held them to start the half as well and Florida looked to have the momentum.
But the Gators could get nothing going offensively and they were hurt by three turnovers in the game while Auburn did not commit any. A muffed punt by Chris Rainey gave Auburn field position for its first touchdown and another muffed punt by Robert Clark late in the game gave the Tigers field position for their game clinching field goal.
Florida was held to 194 yards of total offense althought the Gator defense did a nice job, holding Auburn to just 278 yards of offense and stopping Auburn running back Michael Dyer, who ran for only 73 yards.
Florida has a bye next week before facing Georgia in Jacksonville.
