Gator Volleyball Wins; Soccer Loses In Sports News And Notes

The Gator volleyball team beat Alabama three games to none on Sunday, improving its record to 15-3 overall and to 8-1 in SEC play. Kristy Jaeckel leads the way for the Gators with her 13th straight double-double performance with 14 kills and 10 digs.

The Gator soccer team was not as fortunate, dropping a 1-0 decision Sunday at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs scored in the first minute of play and made it stand up as Florida falls to 13-4 overall and to 6-2 in SEC play.

In other Sports News And Notes…

  • Indy car driver Dan Wheldon, a two time Indianapolis 500 winner, died Sunday after his car crashed during a race in Las Vegas. Three other drivers were hurt in the violent crash and after the race, drivers took part in a five lap salute around the race track. Wheldon was 33 years old.
  • The St.Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers will meet in the World Series after the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 12-6 on Sunday to win the National League Championship Series four games to two. The World Series will start on Wednesday, with the Rangers making their second straight trip to the Fall Classic.
  • The first BCS Standings are out for this college football season and unbeaten LSU and Alabama are first and second in the poll. Those two teams will go head to head in November in SEC play. Oklahoma is third, followed by Oklahoma State, Boise State, Wisconsin, Clemson, Stanford, Arkansas and Oregon.
