Palmer Traded To Raiders; Sports News And Notes

The Oakland Raiders have acquired quarterback Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals for a 2012 first round pick and a conditional second round pick the next year that could become another first rounder if Oakland makes it to the AFC title game in those two seasons.

The Raiders make the move after starting quarterback Jason Campbell is lost due to injury and he could be out for six weeks or more. Oakland is 4-2 on the season.

  • The agent for quarterback Christian Ponder says he is going to be named the starting quarterback for the struggling Minnesota Vikings. Ponder, the FSU rookie, hopes to improve the team’s 1-5 record.
  • The Big East is trying to expand to 12 teams for football. However, the Big East commissioner says it could take a while because the league might wait to see what happens with the Missouri situation. The Tigers are rumored to be soon asking the SEC for acceptance into that conference. The Big East could add Navy, Air Force, UCF, Houston, SMU and Boise State; Navy, Boise State and Air Force would be football only members.
  • No word yet on what happened when NBA players and owners met with a federal mediator Tuesday to try and end a lockout.
