A lot of activity this weekend in Gator athletics besides football.
The Gator volleyball team tries to get back on the winning track after back to back road SEC losses last weekend when it hosts Alabama today at 4pm. Florida will also host Ole Miss on Sunday.
The Gator soccer team plays today in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama. Florida will play eighth seeded Alabama, an upset 1-0 winner over top seed South Carolina on Wednesday. You can hear the match live tonight on WRUF Sports Radio 850 starting at 8:20pm.
And the Gator men’s basketball team wins its only exhibition game of the season Thursday night by whipping Catholic University 114-57. Florida uses a glut of three point shots to bury Catholic as it hit 20 of 40 long distance shots. Guards Kenny Boyton and Bradley Beal led the way with 21 and 20 points respectively. Coach Billy Donovan played against his son Billy, a guard, and he led Catholic with 13 points.
One more Gator note…charges have been dropped by the State Attorney against Gator football player Dominique Easley. Easley had been involved in an alleged altercation with a former Alabama player after Florida’s loss to the Tide this year and the University Police Department filed sworn complaints against both men but State Attorney Bill Cervone declined to prosecute either of them.
