Paterno Announces Retirement

November 9, 2011

Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has announced that he will retire at the end of this season. The Nittany Lions are currently nationally ranked and are facing nationally ranked Nebraska this weekend.

Paterno released a statement today saying that he has come to work at Penn State for the last 61 years trying to serve the best interests of the university and that the investigation into allegations that a former football coach molested young boys over a period of years at the school was a “tragedy” for all involved.

He also said he was “devastated” by the ongoing developments in the case and that he was praying for the families and children involved in the investigation.

Paterno has been the head coach at Penn State for the past 46 seasons and even though he has been less hands on as a coach over the past few years the Nittany Lions are unbeaten so far in Big 10 play and are having a very solid season.
