Paterno Fired At Penn State

November 10, 2011

Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has been fired.

The Penn State Board of Trustees met Wednesday and made the announcement that Paterno had been let go after 46 seasons as the school’s head coach. He was informed of his firing through a phone call after the day started with Paterno announcing that he would retire at the end of this season.

Paterno was fired for how he handled, or didn’t handle, reports given to him that assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was allegedly abusing young children. Paterno did go to his superiors but some believe he did not do enough when told of the issue.

Students and others immediately gathered after the announcement was made and there were incidents of violence as most expressed shock and anger that Paterno was fired.

Penn State will play Nebraska on Saturday.
