The 6-6 Gator football team is continuing practices for its upcoming Gator Bowl game against 6-6 Ohio State on January 2.
Gator coach Will Muschamp spoke to the media on Monday and the two hottest topics seemed to be his timetable for naming a new offensive coordinator and strength coach and what went wrong during the season.
Muschamp said again he would take his time in naming people to those positions and he did not offer up any new names or clues as to who might be a leading candidate or a candidate at all. He did say that running backs coach Brian White, who will call plays for this game, and former Gator and Jacksonville coach Kerwin Bell are candidates for the offensive coordinator position but Muschamp made that known several days ago.
As far as injuries for the game, Muschamp said Sharriff Floyd would be moved back inside to defensive tackle because of the injury to Dominique Easley and cornerback Jeremy Brown could have knee surgery after missing basically the entire season this year. Muschamp said he is not aware at this time of any academic casualties for the game although he said grades have not been posted.
Muschamp also said if there was one thing he would change to start the season it would be that he would have run a more physical training camp. But he also said he feared injuries because of a lack of depth in certain areas as the main reason that did not happen. He called his team “soft” after losing to Florida State in the regular season finale.
