A big ratings day with Tim Tebow playing, power problems on Monday Night Football and the bowl season kicking back in highlight our Tuesday Sports News And Notes.
- The NFL had its second biggest ratings day on CBS ever when Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos lost to the New England Patriots on Sunday. Only the regular season game featuring two unbeaten teams in the Patriots and Indianapolis drew a bigger rating back in 2007.
- The college bowl season kicks back in tonight in the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg as Marshall, coached by former Gator assistant Doc Holliday, faces FIU. Marshall is 6-6 while FIU is 8-4.
- The Gator baseball team opens the preseason as the nation’s number one team according to Collegiate Baseball. Florida has earned back to back trips to Omaha and the College World Series and returns a veteran and talented team this year. Defending national champion South Carolina is second.
- Two separate power outages mar the Monday Night Football game between visiting Pittsburgh and San Francisco. In the end, the 49ers won 20-3.
- The SEC is adding two more teams and one more day to the SEC Baseball Tournament, starting this year. The move coincides with Missouri and Texas A&M joining the league next year.
