West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith tied a bowl record by throwing six touchdown passes to lead the Mountaineers to a 70-33 rout of Clemson Wednesday night in the Orange Bowl in Miami.
The 70 points is also the most ever scored in a bowl game, breaking the record of 67 when Baylor beat Washington in a bowl game earlier this year.
In fact, West Virginia scored 49 points in the first half, the most points ever scored in a half in a bowl game. And Tavon Austin tied a bowl record by catching four touchdown passes in the game as well. Smith meanwhile was 31 of 42 for 401 yards to help the Mountaineers to the big win.
West Virginia, the Big East champions, finish 10-3 and go to 3-0 in BCS bowl games while Clemson, playing in its first major bowl games in 30 years, finishes 10-4 after winning the ACC title this year.
