Gator Women's Hoops Falls To South Carolina

January 9, 2012

The University of Florida women’s basketball team sees its SEC record fall to 1-2 after losing 49-44 Sunday at home to the Gamecocks.

In a game where each team had trouble scoring, it was Carolina who went out to a 31-15 halftime lead. But Florida turned the tables in the second half to get back into the game as the Gamecocks went cold. Florida got as close as 45-42 but a key offensive rebound and putback by Carolina late sealed the win as the Gamecocks improve to 14-2 overall and to 3-0 in the SEC.

Florida falls to 11-5 overall and to 1-2 in the SEC with a road game at Georgia next on Thursday.

It wasn’t a good weekend for the Gator men’s basketball team either as it lost its SEC opener at Tennessee Saturday. Florida has lost four games this year, all on the road but it will get back home Tuesday for a game against Georgia.
