The University of Florida has formally announced the hiring of Boise State offensive coordinator Brent Pease to the same position with the Gators. Florida football coach Will Muschamp talked about the hiring at a noon press conference on Wednesday.
The Associated Press reports Pease has agreed to a three year deal but Muschamp would not confirm that but he did say that Pease would come to work at Florida on Friday.
Boise State’s offense under Pease, who has also coached in the SEC at Kentucky, was balanced and efficient, and Muschamp said that was one of the things that impressed him while searching for the hire. It ranked sixth in the NCAA in scoring at 44.2 points per game as the team finished 12-1 this past season, beating SEC East champion Georgia in the process.
Muschamp says he has known Pease since their early days as coaches and was impressed by the way he recruited and the offenses he has created. He said he was a good fit for Florida but also added he was not going to change his basic offensive philosophy with Pease as coordinator.
However, he said he welcomed the imput Pease may give in terms of formations, getting people open, tempo and added he was a good fit with his current staff.
