Matthews played under Steve Spurrier in the early 1990’s and has had a taste of coaching experience after being a volunteer coach at GHS a couple of seasons ago. Matthews has told WRUF Sports Radio 850 on many occasions that he wanted to coach at some point and he added that he has had several offers to do so before finally taking the Nease job.
