Legendary former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has died from complications from lung cancer; he was 85 years old.
Paterno died Sunday with his family releasing a statement announcing his passing. Of course, his brilliant coaching career at Penn State, where he coached for more than 50 years, won the school two national titles and for Paterno, the most wins of any college coach with 409.
But as brilliant and long as his career was, it will also be tarnished because he was fired at his beloved Penn State amid a child sex abuse scandal that is yet to be totally sorted out.
Paterno was the head coach at Penn State for 46 seasons, being named national coach of the year five times while bringing the Nittany Lions to 37 bowl games.
