Thursday was a good day for both the Florida women’s and men’s basketball teams as both came away with SEC wins.
The Gator women win in Baton Rouge for the first time since 1996 with a 73-64 win. Florida also sweeps two games from LSU this season. Seniors led the way as forward Ndidi Madu scores a season best 12 points and center Azania Stewart notches her first double-double of the year.
Florida is now 14-8 overall and 4-5 in the SEC and will next play at home Sunday against Ole Miss.
Meanwhile the Gator men remain unbeaten at home after getting by South Carolina 74-66. It wasn’t a vintage night for Florida as they built a 17 point lead early but then saw the Gamecocks climb back into the game late.
The Gators started out shooting well and started out well from beyond the arc but in the second half especially the Gators missed some open long range looks and ended up only 7 of 28 from long distance.
Guard Kenny Boyton led the Gators with 24 points while Bradley Beal had 17 points, 11 boards and a monster dunk in the second half as well.
The Gators turn around quickly and will host Vanderbilt Saturday.
