The No. 1/3 Florida Softball team remains unbeaten after sweeping Michigan State this weekend in its first home series of the season. Every win was a mercy-rule victory ending in the 5th inning, and the Gators leave the weekend 9-0 with the three wins putting Florida past 700 wins in program history.
On Sunday, the Gators posted a season high 15 runs to win 15-4. Gator head Coach Tim Walton made a switch in the batting order for the weekend, moving freshman Sami Fagan to the No. 1 spot ahead of last season’s top-of-the-order batter, senior Michelle Moultrie. It paid off. Moultrie went 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring four times. Sophomore Cheyenne Coyle drove in four runs and hit her third homer of the season as well.
In the circle, freshman Lauren Haeger won her third straight to remain unbeaten.
Florida now heads to Palm Springs, California for their next competition, the Cathedral City Classic from February 23-25. They will face ranked teams from Texas A&M, Texas, and Washington, as well as unranked BYU and Boise State.
