The Southeastern Conference has announced its award winners in men’s basketball today on the eve of the SEC Tournament in New Orleans.
Florida sophomore center Patric Young was named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year while freshman Bradley Beal and junior Kenny Boynton were named to the All-SEC First Team. Senior guard Erving Walker is on the All-SEC Second Team and Beal is also a first teamer on the All-SEC Freshman Team.
Kentucky coach John Calipari is the SEC Coach of the Year and super freshman Anthony Davis wins the SEC Freshman of the Year award as well as being named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and the SEC Player of the Year.
Besides Beal and Boynton, the All-SEC first team is comprised of Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist of Kentucky, Arnett Moultrie and Dee Bost from Mississippi State, and Jeffrey Taylor and John Jenkins from Vanderbilt.
The SEC Tournament starts Thursday and Florida will have a first round bye and will play Friday against the winner of the Alabama-South Carolina matchup.
