After playing eight consecutive games on the road, the second ranked Florida baseball team returns home to McKethan Stadium to face seventh ranked LSU in a three game series starting tonight. This is a key series for both teams, as the Gators and Tigers are looking to build on their identical 6-3 SEC records.
Florida is coming off of a tough 10-5 loss to North Florida on Tuesday night. On the bright side, sophomore righty Karsten Whitson did return to the mound for the first time since starting against William and Mary on February 26th. He should see some more action in this series.
On the other hand, LSU is hot, currently riding a six-game win streak. They swept a solid Arkansas team last weekend, and beat Louisiana College on Tuesday night, 10-2. The Gators will have to watch out for junior leftfielder Raph Rhymes, who is the leading hitter in the SEC right now with a batting average of .491 (53-for-108). He was named this week’s SEC Player of the Week.
UF junior left-handed pitcher Brian Johnson (4-0, 3.29) will get the start tonight against LSU sophomore right-hander Kurt McCune (1-3, 4.76).
First pitch tonight will be thrown at 7:30pm. You can tune into Country 103.7 the Gator to catch all of the action.
