#6 Florida Softball Sweeps Ole Miss

The number six Florida Softball team brought their brooms with them to Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium on Sunday. The Gators needed just five innings in order to defeat the Ole Miss Rebels 14-3.

Florida Freshman Alyssa Bache got the nod to start from Head Coach Tim Walton. She recorded her fifth win of the season while striking out five. Bache says it is great to be on the mound when you have a talented defense on your side.

Fellow Freshman DH Bailey Castro had a big day for the Gators. Castro belted two homers including a Grand Slam against the Rebels and drove in seven RBIs. She says she took a couple of good swings at pitches she liked.

Florida hit the ball well on Sunday. The Gators were able to collect ten hits and seven different Gators were in on the hit parade including Senior Michelle Moultrie and Junior Kelsey Horton who both enjoyed two-hit performances. Florida Head Coach Tim Walton says he likes his team’s approach at the plate.

The Gators improve to 33-4 and 13-2 against the SEC. Florida’s sweep over the Rebels was the sixth consecutive SEC series win. Florida has now knocked off Mississippi State, Tennessee, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia, and Ole Miss thus far in conference play.

Florida turns its attention to a mid-week road game against UCF on Wednesday before coming back home to kick off an eleven game home-stand. During that stretch, the Gators will lock horns with Auburn, FIU, LSU, and Kentucky.
